Scientists have recently proclaimed the mid-thirties to forty years old to be the new "mid-life." Which makes me breathe a sigh of relief because I'm thirty-four and have already weathered several "mid-life crises." The latest crisis concerns my purpose in life. Actually this is the "crisis" I return to every so often (maybe weekly!).
In a previous stage of life I worked as a project manager for an architecture firm. There were several aspects of that career that I enjoyed. But, like all things, life changes. I've been blessed with two beautiful daughters who tend to put things into perspective for me...architecture, as much as it is needed by society, isn't all that important to them! Or to me, when it comes to them. So I "retired" in order to be there for them.
Talk about adjustment! Over the first few years of "retirement" I thought my purpose was to cook and clean, to be sure my husband had clean clothes for work, and to be sure the kids' homework was done. My to-do list was a mile long and I hated every minute of it! I begged God to change my purpose...to give me something to do that I enjoyed. Then it hit me that it isn't so much about marking things off my to-do list, but much more about the home atmosphere I'm creating for my family. Making dinner is more about letting my family know their health is important to me. Keeping a clean house is more about providing a space to play together. And SCRAPBOOKING IS MORE ABOUT CREATING SOMETHING TANGIBLE THAT TELLS MY FAMILY THEY ARE IMPORTANT AND LOVED! That was a huge realization for me because I thought scrapbooking was a selfish waste of time and money...something I wanted to do, but wasn't necessary and actually took me away from my to-do list.
I could tell you that I joined Close To My Heart for the awesome business opportunities (which it does provide!), but really I joined for the sole reason of scrapbooking my family's life. To force myself to stop and scrapbook amid the chaos of to-do lists. And I chose Close To My Heart because, simply, THE PRODUCTS ARE AWESOME!
